The Postal Service kicked off National Card and Letter Writing Month April 1 by dedicating From Me to You, a stamp to promote handwritten correspondence.

The pane of 20 self-adhesive stamps includes decorative stickers that carry messages such as “Happy Birthday” and “Miss You.”

USPS is also collaborating with Scholastic Corp. on “It’s a Delight to Write,” a guide to teaching letter writing that will be distributed to 80,000 teachers and 7.3 million parents.

“Facebook has photos and videos, but nothing beats the thrill and excitement of opening the mailbox and finding a personal letter written and addressed just to you,” said USPS Judicial Officer William Campbell, who dedicated the stamps at Friendship Public Charter School’s Woodridge campus in Washington, DC.

Dominique Young, a Scholastic senior director, said for too many children, the art of handwritten letters “has been cast aside for more immediate digital forms of communication. We are thrilled to be working with the Postal Service to create a program that helps students return to a more personal and meaningful way to reach out.”

The stamps can be purchased online and at Post Offices nationwide.
