The Glendale, CA, Post Office recently opened a “mega passports office” to better serve applicants.

The 1,500-square-foot office is separate from the retail lobby and has additional staff. Services include passport photos, document photocopying, expedited processing and Priority Mail Express delivery with tracking and insurance.

The office is open every day except Thursdays and Sundays. No appointments are necessary.

The Postal Service began accepting passport applications on the State Department’s behalf in 1975. USPS processed 5.2 million applications last year, generating about $166.7 million in passport revenue (including photo fees).

The State Department issued 14.1 million passports and passport cards in 2014, up from 8.8 million passports a decade earlier.

The Postal Service’s passports site has information on fees, application forms and processing times.
