What’s your number?

USPS focused on employee health, wellness

A healthy blood pressure is considered 120 over 80 or less.

Do you know your blood pressure? What about your body mass index (BMI)?

Knowing what’s happening inside your body is important to managing your overall health.

The Postal Service urges employees to get regular health screenings, which include blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar level checks.

These checkups can help you and your doctor determine your risk for certain diseases and conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

The earlier you know your numbers, the sooner you can manage your health.

Health organizations like the National Institutes of Health have determined ideal ranges for healthy adults.

Examples: A healthy blood pressure is considered 120 over 80 or less; cholesterol, less than 200; and BMI, between 18.5 and 24.9.

Annual screenings to know your numbers are generally covered by your health plan with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

If you don’t have a doctor, visit your health plan’s website to find one.

In addition to promoting health awareness, USPS has developed a “holistic” wellness program to help employees strengthen their wellbeing in other areas, such as money management.
