The Postal Service has issued 1-cent Apples stamps for customers who need additional postage.

The stamps are available in coils of 3,000 and 10,000.

The design features two apples on a branch surrounded by leaves. The apples shown are Albemarle pippins, also known as Newtown pippins.

The pippins first appeared in the late 17th century in an area of Queens, NY, formerly known as Newtown. The medium-sized, reddish-yellow and green apples soon gained popularity throughout colonial America.

The Apples stamps are available at Post Offices and usps.com. The Aug. 12 news release has more information.
