USPS offers guidance for employees

USPS employees should not forward checks that are undeliverable as addressed.

The Postal Service is delivering the latest batch of stimulus checks under the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law last month.

Most people are receiving the checks, also known as Economic Impact Payments, through direct deposit. However, about 20 million checks will be sent through the mail.

USPS employees should not forward checks that are undeliverable as addressed, according to guidance from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service.

Instead, these checks should be returned to the Treasury Department’s Philadelphia location.

Additionally, mail carriers should take extra care when delivering checks, including remaining vigilant about their surroundings while on route and, if necessary, contacting a supervisor about any concerns.

Customers who have questions about their stimulus checks should refer to the Internal Revenue Service website, which has a Get My Payment tool.
