New feature shows holiday mail numbers

The counter, which shows the estimate as of Dec. 20 at 12:01 p.m. EST, is located on the USPS Holiday Newsroom website.

You can now keep track of the number of mailpieces being handled by the Postal Service this holiday season.

The organization has introduced an online counter that shows the number of letters, cards and packages that USPS has accepted since Thanksgiving.

By Dec. 20 at 12:01 p.m. EST, the number exceeded more than 9 billion.

Altogether, the Postal Service expects to process and deliver more than 12 billion letters, cards and packages between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

The counter, which is continually updated, is a rolling estimate based on electronic documentation of mail and package items accepted and premailing notifications received by the Postal Service.

You’ll find the counter on the USPS Holiday Newsroom website, which also has shipping deadlines, fact sheets and other resources to help customers and employees.

When visiting the Holiday Newsroom, be sure to click on the mailbox flag for a special surprise.
