The Postal Service’s travel cards will soon be safer, more secure and easier to use.
Citibank, which issues the cards, plans to convert all magnetic-strip plastic cards to new versions that are embedded with secure computer chips. The new cards also require cardholders to enter a personal identification number (PIN) when they make a purchase, adding an extra layer of security.
More merchants in the United States are expected to adopt chip and PIN technology, which will make the cards more convenient.
USPS travel cards that expire from February through November will reissue as usual and come with the new features. If your card expires in December or later, it will be re-issued in mid-July 2015.
