The Romeo, MI, Post Office may have set a Guinness world record for the most greeting cards mailed from a single location at one time.

Romeo cancelled 3,602 cards during a three-hour stretch Feb. 14. Guinness is verifying the numbers, which surpass the current record of 2,984 greeting cards mailed from Salt Lake City in 2013.

Three Michigan postal employees — Dryden Retail Associate Marie Wirtz, New Haven Retail Associate Bryan Fenner and St. Clair Retail Associate Lisa Wolfe — served as cancellers, stamping each envelope by hand.

The cancellations took place during a community drive where Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes were used to create more than 200 military care packages.

“All the cards and letters will be sent with the packages to lift the morale and put a smile on the faces of servicemembers deployed overseas,” said Romeo Postmaster Alex Stubbs. “Breaking the record is a bonus.”
