The organization provides its members with networking opportunities, mentoring and other professional development services. Network was founded in 1984 by African-American female postal managers, although membership is open to all employees.
“Network is an investment in me and in my future, which is why I remain an active member,” said Washington, DC, Executive Administrative Assistant Sharon Barger.
Network’s activities align with the Postal Service’s emphasis on workforce development.
National programs include training conferences and Women on the Move, which helps participants develop their skills for future assignments.
Network also has local chapters that hold monthly meetings with guest speakers.
More than 70 employees attended a recent Washington, DC, open house, where National Events Manager Raschelle Parker and Learning and Development Manager Susan McKeen delivered presentations on the value of forming professional connections.
Attendees also practiced “elevator pitches” — short speeches that employees can use to tout their skills to hiring managers.
The DC chapter also held a webinar on job interviewing techniques.
