More than 125 employees seeking career advancement in the Postal Service recently received an encouraging message: Their timing couldn’t be better.

“There is a lot of opportunity on the horizon,” Santa Ana District Manager Larry Munoz told the group. “It’s absolutely essential that we develop our most important resource — our people.”

Munoz spoke at one of the district’s periodic networking nights, which give employees an opportunity to meet with local managers to learn about Postal Service career opportunities.

Attendees also practice “elevator speeches” — short speeches they can use to tout their skills to hiring managers — and receive tips on applying for jobs through eCareer.

USPS has made workforce development a priority, including providing employees with more training and improving the way the organization leverages their skills.

Santa Ana, CA, Sr. Plant Manager Mike Allen told attendees the Postal Service’s ongoing transformation into “a world-class package platform” offers many career opportunities.

“Supervisor and manager positions will be opening up,” Allen said. “I can’t overemphasize the importance of identifying and developing [our] next generation of leaders.”
