Ozark, AR, Rural Carrier Lesa Howell was delivering mail recently when she noticed a woman lying on the ground. The woman said she had fallen while coming down the steps and had been immobile for more than three hours.

Howell called for help and retrieved a blanket and pillow to keep the woman comfortable. She stayed with her until help arrived.

Later that afternoon, Howell checked with the woman’s family and learned she broke her right arm and needed leg surgery. The woman is now recovering and receiving rehabilitative therapy in a nursing facility.

“Lesa values her customers,” said Ozark Postmaster Vickie Ramsey. “She is dedicated and focused when it comes to her job as a rural carrier.”
