Bigger mailboxes are a hit, CBS reports

The larger mailboxes being tested by the Postal Service are proving popular with customers and employees alike.

“I’m able to drive up, open the door, scan the package and the mail, and put it all in one centrally located spot,” Newhall, CA, Letter Carrier Ron Ronaldi says in a new CBS report. (Some employees may be unable to view external videos on postal computers.)

USPS began testing the 13-by-7-inch mailboxes in a handful of communities this year.

The bigger boxes can accommodate more packages, a focus of the organization as its parcel delivery service continues to grow.

Customer Janice Schnepp, who is participating in the test, also is a fan.

“The postal carrier can put everything in there,” Schnepp tells CBS. “I don’t have to worry about prescription medications or other mail order items being left on the front door.”
