Hispanic American Heritage Month

Annual commemoration begins Sept. 15

Hispanic Heritage Month
USPS issued this stamp in March, one of several honoring the works of Mexican artist Martín Ramírez.

The Postal Service will join other organizations and individuals across the nation who will observe Hispanic American Heritage Month from Sept. 15-Oct. 15.

This year’s theme, “Hispanic Americans: Energizing Our Nation’s Diversity,” reflects the ongoing contributions of Hispanic Americans to the nation’s economy and culture.

Hispanic Americans comprise 9.4 percent of the Postal Service’s workforce, or about 58,000 people.

The United States is now home to 54 million Hispanics, according to Pew Research Center data. This represents 17 percent of the nation’s population, up from 3.5 percent in 1960.

Hispanic buying power will reach $1.5 trillion-$1.7 trillion this year and is expected to grow by 50 percent during the next five years. If Hispanic Americans were a nation unto themselves, it would be the world’s 11th largest economy, according to some estimates.
