Hiram, OH, Retail Associate Starleen Schwan was helping a customer recently when the woman’s speech became slurred and she started experiencing difficulty filling out a form.

Schwan remembered the acronym FAST — face, arms, speech, time — which helped her realize the woman was suffering a stroke.

After calling 911, Schwan contacted the woman’s husband.

The customer, Anne Collin, was airlifted to a hospital and treated. A few days after her release, she returned to the Post Office to thank Schwan for helping to save her life.
