Conference addresses career opportunities

Buffalo, NY, Postmaster Thomas Szklarz, left, discusses career opportunities with Buffalo Letter Carrier Junior Kayembe at the conference.

You have many options if you want to move forward in the Postal Service, employees were told at a recent USPS career conference.

The two-day event, organized by Western New York District, included networking opportunities and several sessions where new and seasoned employees shared their career stories and future ambitions.

“Many postal executives began as craft employees and then took on location, schedule and position changes to enhance their careers,” District Manager James Lentz told participants.

“No matter which path you choose, remember: You are the creator of your own story.”

Attendees also received one-on-one advice from postal leaders, conducted eCareer reviews and participated in “Sell Yourself in 2 Minutes” exercises.

Other sessions offered tips on interviewing skills, communicating effectively, retirement planning, time management, leadership preparation and cyber security.

“You took the first step by coming to this event,” Sr. Plant Manager Anthony Mazurkiewicz told attendees at the conclusion of the conference. “Now you need to follow through and put into action your plan to create the next chapter in your postal career.”
