The Postal Service has improved Return Receipts, providing customers with additional security features so they’ll know who signed for their mail.
USPS now links the barcode on the receipt to other extra services used for the mailpiece, such as Registered Mail, Certified Mail, Collect on Delivery or insurance for more than $500.
The barcode also is linked to the tracking service that follows the receipt as it returns to the mailer.
“Knowing who received your mail — and when — ensures that items that may be sensitive don’t go to the wrong person,” said New Products and Innovation VP Gary Reblin. “Electronic Return Receipts definitely provide a more convenient avenue for keeping track of shipments.”
These security features are only available domestically for Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail and First-Class Package Services products.
Email or hard copy receipts showing the recipient’s signature and a delivery date also can be purchased at the time of mailing, along with other extra services.
