Software patch to fix Android phones’ vulnerability

If you use a Samsung Android smartphone, you’ll need to install an update to the operating system soon.

Postal Service employees who use Samsung Android smartphones should install an upcoming update to the operating system that patches a security glitch.

The update repairs Stagefright, a collection of software bugs that leave the devices vulnerable to hackers. Stagefright affects Samsung phones that use Froyo 2.2 through Lollipop 5.1.1 versions of the Android operating system.

Phone service providers will push the software update to phones. The update is performed over Wi-Fi.

The CyberSafe at USPS team advises employees to install the update as soon as it arrives.

Service providers pushed an update to fix similar Stagefright vulnerabilities in August.

More information on required updates is available on the IT Mobile Computing SharePoint site.
