The Postal Service is prepared to deliver more than 30 million packages Dec. 21, making it the year’s busiest delivery day.
Holiday package volumes are up about 15 percent compared to last year’s peak season.
“This shows customers are increasingly counting on the Postal Service to deliver the holidays,” said PMG Megan J. Brennan.
USPS is on track to meet projections of delivering more than 15 billion mailpieces before New Year’s Eve.
The Postal Service has taken several steps to prepare for peak season, including boosting ground and air transportation capacities, adding new package-sorting equipment at USPS plants, and developing routing options to increase efficiencies.
Additionally, the Postal Service has added real-time delivery notifications that allow customers to receive text or email alerts a few minutes after some packages have been scanned delivered.
