The Postal Service has redesigned Priority Mail label 228 to make it easier for consumers to address packages and help employees process them more efficiently.

The new label measures 4 1/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches and gives customers more space to apply addresses to their packages. The “From” and “To” sections have also been enlarged.

The changes are designed to reduce “loop mail,” which describes mailpieces with incorrect bar codes or ZIP Codes that cause the mailpiece to go around in circles without reaching its correct destination.

The tick marks on expedited packaging supplies also have been reoriented from horizontal to vertical to accommodate the vertical and 4-by-6-inch shipping labels used by commercial customers.

The new Priority Mail labels are available online.
