Veterans Day, a day to honor individuals who have served in the U.S. armed forces, is Friday, Nov. 11.

The holiday holds special significance for the Postal Service, one of the nation’s largest employers of veterans. Approximately 113,000 employees, or nearly 18 percent of the USPS workforce, have served in the military.

“While we recognize our colleagues who are veterans year-round, Veterans Day is a significant time to salute them and take time to reflect upon their contributions,” PMG Megan J. Brennan wrote in a message to employees this week.

The Postal Service will honor employees who are veterans with a special lapel pin, along with a recognition letter from the PMG.

USPS also honors veterans and members of the military through its stamp program, including this year’s Honoring Extraordinary Heroes: The Service Medals stamps.
