Several Postal Service employees from the New York area helped ring the closing bell at the Nasdaq stock exchange Dec. 21.

The group included employees who performed heroic acts, including Morristown, NJ, Letter Carrier Lorenzo Clark; Ansonia, CT, Letter Carrier Kareem Copeland Sr.; College Point, NY, Letter Carrier Huan Boi Zhu; Brooklyn, NY, Letter Carrier Shaun Mitcham and Customer Services Supervisor Sandra Penick; and New York City Custodian Carmelo Quinones Jr.

The employees’ acts of heroism included rescuing children trapped in a fire, reuniting a lost child with his mother, helping a customer who fell outside her home and foiling a cross-country money scam.

The group also included New York area employees involved with Operation Santa, a national program that allows individuals and groups to grant the holiday wishes of people in need.

Northeast Area VP Ed Phelan Jr., who led the bell-ringing ceremony, said all of the honorees “inspired co-workers with boundless energy and a joyful attitude that comes with being postal proud.”
