Ellie Walton, a 4‑year‑old cancer patient who captured headlines — and hearts — after her mother asked well-wishers to send the child postcards, has died.

Sarah Walton announced her daughter’s death last week on a Facebook page for Ellie.

“Ellie gained the strongest and most beautiful wings this morning around 8:30,” Sarah wrote. “Right now I have no words, other than thank God for making me her momma.”

Ellie, who had brain cancer, endured 28 rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and 17 surgeries, the News Tribune reported.

The child made headlines last year following Sarah’s Facebook request for postcards to help the Spanaway, WA, girl see the world. Ellie was too sick to travel on her own, Sarah explained.

Cards came by the hundreds from around the globe, including London, South Korea and Turkey.

Sarah said the postcards brightened little Ellie’s day.
