USPS is reminding employees that they are prohibited from using “mouse jigglers” and other non-approved technology on postal networks and equipment.
Mouse jiggler technology fakes mouse movement to keep computers awake by preventing sleep mode or locking. Jigglers can be downloaded as an app, or they may come in the form of a dongle or small USB device that plugs into computers.
Additionally, employees shouldn’t plug any personal or non-postal approved USB devices into postal networks and equipment for charging.
Examples of personal devices include:
- Cell phones
- Fitness trackers
- Personal thumb drives
- Other Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled devices
- Devices that use a USB cable or otherwise plug into the USB port of a computer
If employees need to charge a device, they should always use an outlet.
