The Food and Drug Administration recently updated food nutrition labels to help consumers make better informed choices.

To help you familiarize yourself with the new labels, the USPS Wellness team offers these tips:

• Start with the serving size per container. Look at both the number of servings per package and the serving size.

• View the total calories. The number shown indicates total calories are per single serving.

• Think of the percent daily value as a guide. This can help evaluate how certain foods fit into your diet.

• Don’t forget the vitamins, minerals and fiber. Include more dietary fiber, Vitamin D and calcium in your diet. All values are based on a 2,000 calorie a day diet.
