Postal Service seeks more SDOs

Some of the Postal Service’s supervisors of distribution operations (SDOs) discuss the job’s challenges — and rewards — in a new recruitment video.

SDOs make sure mail processing facilities’ operations stay on track. The position is often the first step for field employees looking to advance into management.

Successful SDOs are motivated, proactive and engage with employees, according to the individuals who appear in the four-minute video.

“It’s a tough job and it’s strenuous,” says Spokane, WA, SDO Jeremy Strebeck. “[Employee engagement is] a big part of our process in meeting our needs and our standards.”

SDOs also discuss the benefits of the job, including flexible schedules, leadership opportunities and fresh challenges each day.

“It is never like the day before,” says Dulles, VA, SDO Rebecca Kirk. “You never have to worry about doing the same thing over and over again.

The Postal Service’s careers site lists open SDO positions.
