Caribbean District leaders say they’re engaging employees by focusing on workplace safety.
The district, part of Northeast Area, has removed excess equipment from its facilities and made employee safety talks a priority, according to San Juan, PR, Postmaster and Acting Plant Manger Yvonne Rodriguez.
“We showed [employees] that we care about them. We stopped to talk to them, and you could see that they’re growing from that,” she says.
Rodriguez is one of several district leaders who are interviewed in the latest episode of “Engage,” the new video series that highlights USPS workplaces that foster enthusiasm, involvement and commitment.
The district, which includes more than 2,800 employees and 145 retail units, has recently seen its safety scores improve and its motor vehicle accidents and grievances decrease.
“When our employees saw our commitment to provide a safe area and that we care [about] our employees as a family, then attitudes started to change and the culture started to change,” Caparra Heights, PR, Station Manager Debbie Diaz says.
