Portrait of Benjamin Franklin
This 1918 portrait of Postmaster General Benjamin Franklin, painted by Benedict Anton Osnis, is on display again at USPS headquarters.

Welcome home, Mr. Franklin. A portrait of the nation’s first Postmaster General recently returned to USPS headquarters in Washington, DC.

The 7-foot painting of Benjamin Franklin was commissioned in 1918 for PMG Albert Burleson. The artist was Benedict Anton Osnis.

The portrait adorned the PMG’s office until 1973, when USPS headquarters moved to L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, DC.

The painting hung in a reception area at headquarters until the late 1990s. In 2001, it was loaned to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Franklin is now on display again at headquarters.

Postal Pulse survey. USPS will conduct its next Postal Pulse employee survey Aug. 15-Sept. 15.

The survey measures engagement, which refers to employees’ involvement, enthusiasm and commitment to their organization.

The Postal Service will provide additional information during the next few weeks.

Direct impact. The Postal Bulletin’s latest edition highlights upcoming promotions for business mailers.

The July 20 edition also features tips to avoid downloading malware on postal devices and a pull-out section on invalid USPS corporate account numbers.
