Boxing great remembered. The Manassa, CO, Post Office is offering a special pictorial postmark celebrating the town’s most famous resident: heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey.

“This great man put our town on the map and the special postmark will ensure this remains a collectible for the ages,” said La Jara Postmaster Jennifer Jaramillo.

Born in Manassa, Dempsey (1895-1983) knocked out Jesse “Pottawatomie Giant” Willard to win the heavyweight championship in 1919. He was the reigning champ until 1926.

Manassa celebrates Dempsey’s legacy with a museum housed in the cabin where he was born.

The Postal Service’s news release has more information, including instructions on requesting the postmark.

Sundance rides again. The Masqueraders, the soul trio that includes USPS retiree Harold “Sundance” Thomas, is expected to return to “America’s Got Talent” for a live performance next week.

Thomas, formerly a Memphis, TN, mail handler, and the other members of the group are competing this season for the show’s $1 million grand prize.

The episode featuring the Masqueraders is slated to air Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 8-10 p.m. EDT.
