Morris, NY, Retail Associate Valaykone Chansavath recently became a U.S. citizen.

Valaykone Chansavath dreamed of this moment.

The Morris, NY, retail associate recently became an American citizen, 27 years after arriving in the United States as a four-year-old refugee from her native Thailand.

“It’s always been one of those things that I wanted to do since becoming an adult,” Chansavath said. “I want to have that liberty to vote.”

With her citizenship goal accomplished, Chansavath is looking forward to advancing her postal career.

“Now all these avenues have opened up to me,” she said. “I really want to take it to the top and be a Postmaster or inspector someday.”

Morris, NY, Postmaster Molly Becht said Chansavath is up for any opportunity she sets her sights on.

“She’s a hard worker and picks up things very well,” Becht said. “There’s a bright future for her at the Postal Service.”
