Need to know

Scanning, holiday hours and more

Scanning
Western was the area leader in scanning during the week ending Oct. 27, while Dakotas finished first among the districts.

Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.62 percent during the week ending Oct. 27, up from one week earlier.

Dakotas (99.2 percent) topped the districts, while Western (98.09 percent) led the areas.

To see the latest results, go to the Enterprise Analytics site and select “Scanning” on the left hand side, and then “DES 2 — Scan Performance” from the drop-down options.

Holiday hours. The Postal Service is providing general operating policy and planning guidance for the Veterans Day holiday, which is Saturday, Nov. 11.

Employees who regularly work Monday-Friday should observe Friday, Nov. 10, as their holiday. Employees who regularly work Saturday should observe the holiday Nov. 11.

A new memo, available on Blue, explains guidelines for delivery, retail, processing and logistics operations.

Halloween spirit. File this one under “too cute for words”: Oak Brook, IL, Letter Carrier Felix Marasigan’s 10-month-old son, Sean, dressed as his dad for Halloween this year.

Sean received lots of compliments on his costume (“He’s adorable,” one neighbor declared) and words of wisdom from his beaming dad.

“The advice I would give my son on his first day working at USPS is: Wear proper footwear, work hard, deliver the mail accurately and never give up,” Marasigan said.

Holding out for a hero. Some Link readers had trouble accessing the Nov. 1 “Heroes’ corner” story about Donald Maggard Jr., the New York letter carrier who saved a woman choking on a cookie in a souvenir shop parking lot.

The technical problem has been fixed. You can now read the story on the Link site.
