Flag flying at half-staff
President Trump has ordered U.S. flags flown at half-staff to honor the victims of this week’s mass shooting in Parkland, FL.

Flag notice. President Trump has ordered U.S. flags flown at half-staff to honor the victims of this week’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

Flags should be flown at half-staff until sunset Monday, Feb. 19.

USPS facilities that fly the flag at all times and are closed Feb. 19 for Presidents Day should lower the flag to half-staff when the facility closes prior to the holiday. Return the flag to full staff when the facility opens Tuesday, Feb. 20.

To fly the flag at half-staff, hoist the flag to the peak for an instant and then lower it to the half-staff position. The flag should be raised to the peak again before it’s lowered for the day.

For additional information, refer to the Postal Service’s guidelines on U.S. flag display and maintenance.

Scam warning. The Postal Bulletin’s latest edition highlights National Consumer Protection Week, which will be held from Sunday, March 4-Saturday, March 10.

The article highlights scams that target military veterans, citing research that shows 16 percent of veterans have lost money to fraud.

The Feb. 15 issue also previews the Mister Rogers stamp, which USPS will release March 23.
