The Postal Inspection Service helped USPS employees in Atlanta learn more about fraud prevention last week, part of the law enforcement agency’s ongoing consumer protection efforts.
Inspectors set up booths at the Atlanta and Peachtree processing and distribution centers, where they distributed educational brochures and offered guidance on ensuring the sanctity of U.S. Mail.
The outreach was part of Operation Protect Veterans, a national campaign by the Inspection Service and the AARP Fraud Watch Network to warn former and active service members about scams.
“We’re focusing on our veterans — the people who have protected our country,” said Inspector Taylor Fernandez. “It is our job to protect them from scams that target their military service and benefits.”
LaJuana Reeves, an Inspection Service administrative support coordinator, said the information will benefit everyone.
“It is imperative we know what to look for and what to say if faced with a scam,” Reeves said. “We are giving out information to people not only to protect themselves, but their loved ones as well.”
