Using direct mail to target voters

“Be Direct with Political Mail” is available on the organization’s YouTube channel and its Deliver the Win site.

Be Direct with Political Mail,” a new video from the Postal Service, shows how political campaigns can use direct mail to reach voters.

The 1-minute, 30-second segment features “Derek,” a campaign manager who explains that direct mail should be part of every campaign’s media mix.

“One of the best ways to be direct with your voters is actually with direct mail,” Derek says. “The word direct is right in the name.”

The video cites a survey that found 86 percent of registered voters said they check their mailboxes five times a week.

Eighty-nine percent of millennials surveyed said they read political mail, including 66 percent who said direct mail spurred them to go online to learn more information.

“Winning the election can start right at the mailbox,” Derek says.

“Be Direct with Political Mail” can be viewed on both the Postal Service’s YouTube channel and Deliver the Win, a site to help customers learn more about the benefits of using mail in political campaigns.
