Tyra Clemons-Lawson knows there’s power in smiling.
The Carol Stream, IL, retail associate takes pride in greeting customers with a friendly expression.
“Some customers come in and they might have some difficulties that have nothing to do with me,” Clemons-Lawson says. “If you give them your positive energy, you will get it back.”
USPS encourages employees throughout the organization to provide customers with cheerful, helpful service.
These efforts, which include revitalized training and #PostalProud awareness campaigns, are part of the Postal Service’s broader emphasis on delivering world-class customer experiences, a core business strategy to grow revenue.
In Carol Stream, Clemons-Lawson’s smile is well-known among customers and co-workers alike.
“She always has a contagious smile. That’s important since she is the face of our company,” says Great Lakes Area Controller Mark Rosenwinkel.
Clemons-Lawson says her smile comes naturally, and she’s glad it helps customers feel better.
“It makes their day a little simpler, eases their mind a little bit,” she says. “It makes me happy to be able to serve them.”
“Best practices,” a series on employees who demonstrate on-the-job excellence, appears regularly in Link.
