National Bike to Work Day is May 18

USPS employees can participate in National Bike to Work Day May 18.

The Wellness team is inviting Postal Service employees to participate in National Bike to Work Day, which is Friday, May 18.

The effort aims to promote healthy, environmentally friendly ways to get to work.

If you’re new to biking, the team offers these tips:

  • Always wear a helmet
  • Wear bright-colored clothing
  • Obey all traffic rules
  • Try a practice run before May 18

Additionally, employees should use the League of American Bicyclists site to see if any Bike to Work local events are scheduled this week.

“Bicyclists must take extra precautions when they ride,” said Safety Manager Linda DeCarlo. “They often share the road with vehicles, which creates a host of hazards. But injuries can happen even on a designated path, especially if you are not paying attention or wearing a helmet.”

DeCarlo’s motto: “Use your head, protect your noggin.”

If biking isn’t your thing or you’re in an area not suitable for biking, the USPS Sustainability team’s Green Team page has a list of other ways to practice sustainability.

You can also go to the Wellness LiteBlue page to sign up for the Wellness e-newsletter.
