Flag notice. Flag Day, one of six days each year that Postal Service facilities are required to fly the POW-MIA flag, is Thursday, June 14.
The flag honors the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action. The POW-MIA flag must fly below the U.S. flag.
Cuba direct service resumes. The Postal Service recently re-established direct transportation of mail between the United States and Cuba.
Although postal services between the two nations have been ongoing, the direct transportation of mail between the United States and Cuba was suspended for more than 50 years, beginning in the 1960s. In March 2016, a pilot plan was negotiated to restore faster, less expensive direct transportation of mail and packages.
After this one-year trial period ended, the Postal Service worked with the U.S. Department of State and other agencies to provide the direct transportation of letters, parcels and Priority Mail Express International Service to Cuba on a permanent basis.
Abracadabra! The Postal Service will release The Art of Magic stamps Tuesday, Aug. 7.
