Email subject lines to feature new info

Email subject line
USPS is adding new information to email subject lines to help employees quickly identify messages sent from outside the organization.

USPS is taking new measures to help you be more cautious and vigilant when dealing with email.

Beginning Tuesday, June 12, all emails received from senders outside the Postal Service will display this in the subject line: [EXTERNAL].

The organization is making this change to help you quickly identify messages that could pose a cybersecurity threat.

When you see [EXTERNAL] in a subject line, carefully assess the email for legitimacy. If the message looks suspicious, use the Report to CyberSafe button in your Outlook toolbar to alert the CyberSafe at USPS team.

You can also send suspicious messages to CyberSafe@usps.gov as an attachment by selecting the message and simultaneously hitting the Ctrl, Alt and F keys. When sharing sensitive attachments, add this to your subject line: #sensitive#.

The CyberSafe at USPS Blue page has additional information on effectively managing emails.
