More than 400 Postal Service employee attended a recent career conference in Coral Springs, FL, where they showcased their skills and received tips to advance their careers.

“I gained tools to improve my communication skills, how to make a lasting impression and learned that if I apply myself, no goal is unobtainable,” said Ronneka Montgomery, a mail processing clerk at the Miami Processing and Distribution Center.

USPS districts across the nation hold career conferences each year as part of the Postal Service’s emphasis on workforce development. The meetings help employees learn about job opportunities throughout the organization.

The conferences feature panel discussions, workshops and networking events, along with special activities.

The Coral Springs conference, organized by Southern Area’s South Florida District, boasted an activity similar to speed dating. Employees got to meet and greet the district’s leadership, and give their “elevator speech” in hopes of being selected for a 30-day detail assignment.

“I think the speed networking was a great experience, especially for employees who are timid and would not have approached the leaders and executives on their own,” said Tameka Mullings, a mail processing clerk at the Royal Palm Processing and Distribution Center in Opa-locka, FL.

“The workshops I attended helped me to acquire a lot of great knowledge. I will definitely reach out to my new contacts to take that next step towards growth in my career.”
