Great Lakes was the area leader in scanning during the week ending Oct. 19, while Dakotas finished first among the districts.

Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.58 percent during the week ending Oct. 19, up from one week earlier.

Great Lakes (97.87 percent) topped the areas, while Dakotas (99.17 percent) led the districts.

Scanning allows customers to track their packages and mail, and it helps USPS improve efficiency and network management.

To see the latest results, go to the Enterprise Analytics site and select “Analytics Tools,” followed by “DES 2 Scan Dashboard.”

Food for thought. The latest USPS blog post offers customers tips on packaging and shipping food and other fragile items this holiday season.

The blog reminds customers to reinforce the inside of their packages with bubble wrap, crumpled paper or soft, absorbent materials to help protect items.

Other tips include how to package treats like soft cookies, breads and granola.

From October-December, the Postal Posts blog will feature packaging tips, holiday hours and other information to help customers meet their holiday mailing and shipping needs.

In the news. The Postal Service has introduced a new version of the USPS Media Center, a site that provides photos, videos and news releases from stamp dedication ceremonies and other national events.

Stock video and images of USPS operations are also included.

Members of the news media can use the site to download materials to assist in their coverage of the Postal Service.

Corporate Communications manages the site, which is available at media.usps.com.
