Are you ready for Feb. 1?

The Postal Service is inviting employees to participate in National Wear Red Day, which is held annually to raise awareness of heart disease.

This year’s National Wear Red Day is Friday, Feb. 1.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, accounting for approximately 1 in every 4 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Several medical conditions and lifestyle choices can increase your risk of heart disease, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure
  • High saturated fats and cholesterol in your diet
  • Excessive alcohol use
  • Tobacco use
  • A family history of heart disease

Many of these risks can be managed with proper diet and exercise.

The Wellness LiteBlue page has more information on National Wear Red Day.

Employees who participate are required to follow their facility’s dress code or the regulations detailed in the Employee Labor Relations Manual, Section 930, Uniform Program.
