Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.64 percent during the week ending Jan. 25, down from one week earlier.
Western (97.9 percent) led the areas, while Dakotas (98.95 percent) topped the districts.
Scanning allows customers to track their packages and mail, and it helps USPS improve efficiency and network management.

Remembering Maddox. Maddox Hyde, the 14-year-old Reynoldsville, PA, resident who made headlines after requesting cards for his final Christmas, has died.
“With heavy hearts we are sad to announce that Maddox has fought his last battle with cancer,” his family announced on Facebook last week.
Maddox, who was first diagnosed at age 8, was given weeks to live during the holidays.
His request garnered thousands of cards from around the world.
“It is really cool to see how many people are sending them,” Maddox told WJAC-TV in November. “It makes me happy.”
Red reminder. The Postal Service is inviting employees to participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, Feb. 1. The annual observance helps raise awareness of heart disease.
