Marvin Gaye has his own stamp — and now he has his own Postal Service station, too.
Dockweiler Station in Los Angeles was renamed for the influential singer last week during a ceremony that featured members of Gaye’s family, USPS employees, community leaders and others.
“This is so amazing. … You can buy a stamp at his Post Office. You can’t get any better than that,” said Zeola Gaye, Marvin’s sister.
The renaming followed the release of the Marvin Gaye stamp in April. The stamp, part of the Music Icons series, has been warmly embraced by customers and employees alike.
Marvin Gaye Station workers spent several weeks getting the facility into tip-top shape for the ceremony.
Station Manger Javier Beltran said the employees are excited to have their facility dedicated to an artist whose music they admired. “This dedication is very special,” he said.
Said Letter Carrier Jocelyn Carter: “He is a legend. I grew up in the neighborhood, so it means a lot.”
