The Postal Service began negotiations this week on new labor contracts with two unions that represent USPS employees.

Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan and the Postal Service’s bargaining representatives met with leaders of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMHU) at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC.

Negotiations with the NALC, which represents approximately 210,000 employees, began June 26.

Negotiations with the NPMHU, which represents approximately 44,000 employees, began June 27.

The Postal Service’s current contracts with both unions expire Sept. 20.

“The Postal Service looks forward to productive negotiations with both the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Postal Mail Handlers Union,” said Brennan. “With each union, we will seek an agreement that is fair to our employees, fair to our customers, recognizes the realities of today’s marketplace and positions the Postal Service for success moving forward.”
