Labrador retrievers’ keen ability to find things are put to good use in the U.S. armed forces, a new Postal Service video shows.
The dogs have a highly evolved sense of smell, which makes them good at detecting drugs, explosives and people.
“These dogs are definitely bred to work, so what we do here is feeding into their natural ability to want to hunt,” Christian Vitale, a naval master at arms, says in the 2-minute video.
The video is one of four that USPS has produced to promote Military Working Dogs, a 20-stamp booklet that was released this month.
The other videos, which also are available on the Postal Service’s YouTube channel, highlight German shepherd, Dutch shepherd and Belgian Malinois dogs.
