Segment showcases Spooky Silhouettes

USPS has released a video with highlights from the Spooky Silhouettes stamp dedication ceremony.

The event, held Oct. 11 at a pumpkin festival in Milford, NH, featured speakers who traced Halloween’s long, rich history.

“We have 2,000 years of history all telling us that this is a time for ghosts and monsters and legends,” Jeff Belanger, host of the PBS series “New England Legends,” says in the video. “It’s OK if you don’t believe in ghosts. October is still a time for them no matter what.”

Spooky Silhouettes feature digital illustrations with Halloween motifs — including a cat, raven, ghosts, spider and bats — rendered as black silhouettes in windows backlit with eerily evocative shades of green, orange, red and purple.

The stamps are available at Post Offices and usps.com.
