Employees step into holiday spotlight

Clayton, MO, Letter Carrier Raymond Edison appears in a USPS holiday advertisement.

Several Postal Service employees are getting 15 minutes of fame this holiday season, thanks to the organization’s latest advertising campaign.

Every year, real-life postal workers audition to appear in the campaign, which includes television, online and print ads, as well as direct mailings.

“I was grateful for this opportunity,” said Raymond Edison, a Clayton, MO, letter carrier who appears in a series of print and online spots that show him delivering packages to a doorstep decked out in holiday cheer.

“I am really glad they thought enough of me to represent the carriers. … I did not take the nomination lightly, and I know there are thousands of carriers to choose from to represent the brand,” he said.

Oscar Padilla, a Los Angeles letter carrier who appears in this year’s TV spots, said his participation demonstrates the variety of opportunities available to USPS employees.

“The Postal Service got me a chance to be on TV,” said Padilla, who also appears in a behind-the-scenes video on the making of the ads. “I mean, I never have had a chance to be in something like this.”

In addition to hearing from customers who are delighted to see their favorite postal workers on TV and in other advertisements, the employees are receiving praise from friends and relatives.

Edison’s daughter Lindsey, who also delivers mail out of the Clayton Post Office, said she feels “very proud” that her dad was chosen to represent USPS.

“He is very committed to the Postal Service and he loves what he does and enjoys all his customers,” she said.
