A lead submitted by a Statesville, NC, customer services supervisor resulted in a sale that has generated more than $4 million in revenue for the Postal Service.
Robin Murphy was contacted by a local business owner who was looking for a shipper to help the company fulfill its orders.
She provided the customer with sales information and shared possible options to meet the company’s shipping needs, including daily pickups.
Murphy then referred the customer to Business Development Specialist Dan Lallo, who learned the business owner was also interested in pricing, software for producing shipping labels, package returns, product pickups and additional shipping products offered by the Postal Service.
A team that included Sales Representative Ken Clunan and Operations Integration Specialist Jackie Purcell was able to sign the business with an initial sale of $3.4 million in new revenue through February of this year, with estimated revenue of about $4.4 million by June. As of March, the business was processing 2,000-3,000 shipments per day.
“This is a great example of the excellent teamwork, starting at the Statesville Post Office, which leads to winning new business,” said Mary Anderson, small-business engagement director at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC.
The Postal Service aims to raise $1 billion through employee-provided sales leads before the fiscal year ends Sept. 30.
The campaign, which is called the Race for a $Billion, began last fall and has brought in more than $496 million so far in annualized revenue for the organization.
