Upside down

The Postal Service wants facilities to change the way unusable plastic trays and buckets are shipped to the Topeka, KS, Material Distribution Center (MDC) for recycling.

The MDC recycles trays and buckets previously used on automated flat sorting machines and flats sequencing systems.

Under new guidelines, plants are required to stack blue rigid captive trays and yellow street trays upside down when shipped on pallets to the MDC.

Placing the trays upside down prevents contaminants and other materials from falling into the trays during shipment.

Pallets can be double-stacked if they are properly strapped down in a trailer.

Plants are reminded that only one single type of tray — rigid captive or street — should be on each pallet. Other items should not be mixed.
