Gone country

Western stamps dance into employee’s heart

Gregory Huff, a general clerk at the Edison, NJ, Vehicle Maintenance Facility, displays a pane of his new favorite stamps.

Gregory Huff was excited when the Postal Service released its Western Wear stamps last month.

“I bought them because they will remind me of my love for line dancing every time I use them,” said Huff, a general clerk at the USPS Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Edison, NJ.

Huff discovered line dancing in 2011, when he met his then-boyfriend — and now husband — John.

At the time, Huff didn’t know anything about the dance style.

“John loved line dancing and two-stepping. We went line dancing every weekend, but I was always afraid to give it a try since everyone on the floor seemed to already know what they were doing,” Huff said.

As the relationship grew more serious, Huff decided to take private line dance lessons. A few months later, he surprised John for his birthday by stepping onto the dance floor to join him in his favorite line dance, much to his delight.

“And I’ve been line dancing ever since,” Huff said.

Huff continued to teach himself to dance via YouTube videos and group lessons. By 2016, he became a line dance instructor at his local YMCA.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Huff started his own YouTube channel to teach line dancing virtually.

“I have been choreographing and posting a new line dance to the channel every month for over a year now,” Huff said. “I’m so glad the Postal Service released the Western Wear stamps. Now I can add a little bit of country to whatever I mail.”
