Larry Munoz, vice president of Western regional processing operations, retired April 29 after 36 years with the Postal Service.
“Larry was instrumental in leading the organization through its restructuring, which helped us stabilize and improve service, focus on the core aspects of our business, and establish clearer lines of authority and accountability,” Postmaster General Louis DeJoy wrote in a memo announcing Munoz’s retirement.
Munoz was appointed to his most recent role in 2020. He oversaw 146 processing facilities and 56,000 employees in a geographical area spanning from the Great Lakes to the Pacific island territories.
Previously he served as Pacific Area vice president, where he managed 25 processing facilities and more than 67,000 employees.
His tenure in the role coincided with California’s most destructive wildfire, the Camp Fire, in 2018.
In 2019, he was a finalist for the National Engagement Leader of the Year award.
Munoz joined the organization in 1986 as a distribution clerk. He also worked as a senior plant manager; district manager for the San Diego, Santa Ana and Sierra Coastal districts; and as operations support manager for the Pacific Area.
